ASSUMPTION SOFTBALL WINS AT NEMWAN CATHOLIC, CLINCHES OUTRIGHT MARAWOOD SOUTH TITLE

WAUSAU – The Wisconsin Rapids Assumption softball team clinches the outright Marawood Conference South Division championship with a 7-1 win over Wausau Newman Catholic on Thursday at Newman Catholic High School.
Ava Schill tossed a complete game three-hitter with four strikeouts and no walks to pick up the win for Assumption, which remains undefeated at 13-0 overall and 9-0 in the Marawood South.
The conference title is the Royals’ fifth-straight.
Cristin Casey went 3-for-4 and scored twice, Maleia Kolo drove in two runs, and Schill and Claire Nelson each had two hits and an RBI for the Royals.
Kaitlin Kalfafice hit a solo home run in the third inning to account for Newman Catholic’s lone run. The Cardinals fall to 5-7 and 3-6 in the Marawood South.
Newman Catholic will play a nonconference game at Prentice on Friday. Assumption will host a tournament on Saturday at Robinson Park, playing two nonconference games.
