EDGAR – The Assumption softball team swept a doubleheader from Edgar in Marawood Conference South Division action Thursday at Edgar High School in a battle of undefeated teams.

Assumption came back late to post a 2-1 win in the opener before rolling to an 11-1 victory in the second game to complete the doubleheader sweep. The Royals are now 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the Marawood South, taking over first place in the conference from Edgar, which drops to 4-2 overall and in the conference.

Ava Schill had an RBI double and scored the game-winning run on an error in the top of the seventh inning of Game 1 to give the Royals the lead at 2-1.

Edgar put two runners on in the bottom of the inning before Schill was able to wiggle out of the jam and preserve the win.

Schill struck out nine and walked three to earn the win, spoiling a 15-strikeout effort from Edgar pitcher Makayla Wirkus.

The Royals rolled to a 10-run rule win in five innings in the second game. Schill had three hits, including a home run, and drove in four, and Lydia Smits also drilled a home run in the win.

Macy Vollert picked up the win in the circle, striking out three while allowing just three hits.

Assumption will play a make-up game at Auburndale on Friday at 4:45 p.m. Edgar will host Mosinee in a nonconference contest Friday at 5 p.m.
