ASSUMPTION GIRLS SOCCER THUMPS LODI IN WIAA DIVISION 4 SECTIONAL SEMIFINAL

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Assumption girls soccer team continued its undefeated season and stands one win away from its second-straight trip to the state tournament after beating Lodi 5-1 in a WIAA Division 4 sectional semifinal Thursday at Washington Field.


Assumption (21-0) will host Northland Pines (10-9-2) a D-4 sectional final Saturday at 2 p.m. at Washington Field. The winner qualifies for the 2022 WIAA State Girls Soccer Tournament at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee on June 16-18.


Kayla Kerkman scored 7½ minutes into the game, Clara Kubis added a penalty kick 10 minutes later, and Sarah Shaw scored a pair of goals before halftime as the Royals built a 4-0 lead.


Kendall Duellman added a goal 9:39 into the second half and the Royals coasted to the victory. Lodi scored with 3:57 to go for its only score.


Morgan Reichl had 11 saves in goal for Assumption, which held a 19-11 shot advantage. Quetzal Peterson had 12 saves for Lodi (9-7-4).


“I’m very proud of the girls and the match they put together,” Assumption coach Jim Wendels said. “Lodi tested our resolve and we stepped up and countered.”
