ASSUMPTION GIRLS BASKETBALL TOPS MARATHON TO PULL INTO SECOND IN MARAWOOD SOUTH

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Assumption girls basketball team pulled to within a game of first place in the Marawood Conference South Division with a 44-35 win over Marathon on Tuesday at Assumption High School.
The Royals’ win puts them at 8-2 overall and 4-2 in the Marawood Conference, and one-half game ahead of Marathon (5-4, 3-2 Marawood South) in the conference standings. With Auburndale’s loss to Edgar on Tuesday, Assumption is now just one game back of the conference lead.
Ainara Sainz de Rozas led a balanced scoring attack for the Royals with 11 points. Addi Vollert added nine in the win for Assumption, which made 8 of 10 free throws in the victory, compared to Marathon, which was just 11 of 24 from the line.
Allison Wokatsh had 20 points for the Raiders in the loss.
Assumption will host Rib Lake in a crossover on Friday as part of a girls-boys doubleheader. The girls play at 5:30 p.m. with the boys to follow. Both games will be live at zaleskisports.com.
Marathon is home against Chequamegon on Thursday and Prentice on Friday in a pair of Marawood crossover games.
