ABBOTSFORD/COLBY BASEBALL DOWNS ATHENS, PULLS INTO FIRST PLACE TIE IN MARAWOOD NORTH

ABBOTSFORD – Abbotsford/Colby pulled ahead with a four-run fourth inning and went on to defeat Athens 7-3 in a Marawood Conference North baseball game Tuesday at Red Arrow Park.
With the loss, Athens falls into a four-way tie for first place in the Marawood North with Abby/Colby, Phillips and Rib Lake. Athens will host Abby/Colby on Thursday.
Three runs scored on a pair of Athens’ errors in the fourth and Hunter Soyk added a sacrifice fly to give the Falcons a 6-3 lead.
A groundout by Ross Elmhorst scored another run in the seventh for Abbotsford/Colby.
Soyk earned the win, striking out five in 4 2/3 innings. Mateo Lopez closed it down, throwing 2 1/3 scoreless innings to grab the save for A/C.
