WISCONSIN RAPIDS WRESTLING SENDS SIX TO STATE AFTER COMPETITION AT DIVISION 1 SECTIONAL

SUN PRAIRIE – Wisconsin Rapids will have six wrestlers competing at next week’s state tournament after they earned top-two finishes at the WIAA Division 1 wrestling sectional Saturday at Sun Prairie High School.
The Raiders has five individual champions and one runner-up that qualify for the 2022 WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament at the Kohl Center in Madison on Feb. 24-26.
Landyn Freeman (36-9) won the 106-pound title with a 5-0 win over Treynor Curtin of Reedsburg to start the run of three-straight sectional champions for Wisconsin Rapids.
Preston Spray (47-2) followed with an 8-0 major decision over Turner Campbell of Holmen to win the 113-pound title, and Carter Freeman (34-10) edged Cole Fitzpatrick of La Crosse Logan/Central 3-2 to win the 120-pound final.
Brett Back (47-2) later won the 145-pound championship match over Parker Kratochville of Holmen 7-6, and Ashton Fischer (27-4) finished first at 182 with a 14-4 major decision over Luke Statz of Baraboo for the Raiders.
Bennett Weidman (28-7) placed second at 160 for Rapids, losing to Brody Hemauer of DeForest by technical fall, 15-0, to also qualify for the state tournament.
Aceyn Meyer (35-9) at 126, Lucas Bean (29-13) at 132, Josh Black (32-14) at 138 and Josh Hansen (30-16) at 285 all finished third for Wisconsin Rapids.
