SPASH BOYS BASKETBALL EARNS COMEBACK WIN AT WAUSAU EAST

WAUSAU – The Stevens Point boys basketball team overcame a slight halftime deficit to defeat Wausau East 61-48 in a must-win situation for the Panthers on Thursday at East High School.


Stevens Point trailed 22-19 at halftime before rebounding with a 42-point second half performance and outscored the Lumberjacks by 16 to pull out the victory.

Stevens Point improves to 12-8 overall and 8-2 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference to stay alive for a share of the conference title with two home games remaining. Stevens Point hosts Wausau West on Tuesday before first-place Marshfield (10-0 WVC) comes to town on Feb. 18 to finish its WVC schedule.


James Jacobs and Nate Streveler each scored 15 points, and Danny Zdroik had 14 for the Panthers.


Gabe Napgezek led all scorers with 17 points for Wausau East (4-15, 1-8 WVC).
