PORT EDWARDS GIRLS BASKETBALL SNAGS NONCONFERENCE WIN OVER NEKOOSA

PORT EDWARDS – Port Edwards jumped out to a double-digit lead early and were able to fight through foul trouble to hold off Nekoosa for a 55-45 win in a nonconference girls basketball game Tuesday at John Edwards High School.


The Blackhawks (4-16) started the game on a 22-9 run and stayed in control the rest of the way despite three players fouling out in the second half.


Melanie Sillars had 21 points and Taylor Martin scored 19 for Port Edwards in the victory.


Kaelyn Chesenah finished with 16 points and Kiya Kolo added 14 for Nekoosa (2-17).


Port Edwards hosts Tri-County for a Central Wisconsin Conference South Division game Friday at 6 p.m.
