PACELLI SOFTBALL WHIPS NEWMAN CATHOLIC TO CLAIM WIAA DIVISION 5 REGIONAL TITLE

PLOVER – Stevens Point Pacelli scored at least three runs in every winning, and despite giving up runs in all of Wausau Newman Catholic’s at-bats as well, Pacelli ran away with a 21-11 win in five innings to capture the WIAA Division 5 softball regional final on Wednesday at Woyak Park.
Pacelli (22-3) will host Central Wisconsin Conference South rival Almond-Bancroft (19-3) in a D-5 sectional semifinal Monday at Woyak Park. Two of A-B’s losses this season came at the hands of the Cardinals by scores of 9-2 and 4-1.
Laona/Wabeno will host Florence in the other semifinal on Monday, with the winners meeting up Wednesday, June 23, in a sectional final at Almond-Bancroft.
Pacelli scored five runs in the first and fourth innings, four in the second and third, and ended the game with one out in the bottom of the fifth after plating three more.
Pacelli had 21 hits, 17 of which were singles.
Leadoff hitter Briar Armatowski had three of the extra base hits, connecting for two doubles and a triple, and she scored four times to pace the Pacelli offense.
Emily Grezenski had four singles, four runs scored and three RBis, and Jayden Hytry had two hits and four RBIs as well for Pacelli.
Eight of Pacelli’s nine starters had at least two hits and eight different players and RBIs in the victory.
Stevie Samuels and Angela Donath each had three hits, with Donath driving in four for Newman Catholic (7-9).
