PACELLI HAS FIVE SECTIONAL QUALIFERS, COLUMBUS CATHOLIC THREE AT WIAA GIRLS TENNIS SUBSECTIONAL

ANTIGO - Stevens Point Pacelli had two singles players and all three doubles teams move on to sectionals after competition at the WIAA Division 2 girls tennis subsectional Monday at Antigo High School.


Only the No. 1 and No. 2 flighted singles players and doubles teams are eligible to move on to the WIAA State Individual Girls Tennis Tournament in Madison on Oct. 14-16. No. 3 and 4 singles, and No. 3 doubles are used only for team points purposes, with the sectional team champion qualifying for the WIAA State Team Tennis Tournament in Madison on Oct. 22-23.


Marshfield Columbus Catholic also had a pair of singles players, and one doubles team advance to the sectional on Wednesday at Baldwin-Woodville High School.


All seven flights for Wisconsin Rapids Assumption were eliminated.


Natalie Cooper at No. 1 singles and the No. 1 doubles team of Ella Schroeder and Marissa Stolt both one their first matches to earn sectional berths for Pacelli.


Also moving on for the Cardinals were Amanda Lansing at No. 4 singles, the No. 2 doubles team of Amelia Jacoby and Julia Storch, and the No. 3 doubles team of Jayden Hytry and Anabelle Arnold.


Jacoby and Storch lost just three games in its two match wins, and Hytry and Arnold won a couple of hard-fought matches, 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 over Arianna Riley and Ariel Henney of Phillips, and 6-1, 7-6, over Claire Musolff and Anna Evans of Antigo to advance.


Maria Laura Garcia-Moya of Columbus Catholic won her first match at No. 1 singles to advance. Akosua Yeboah won both of her matches 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3 singles, and the No. 1 doubles team of Maya Kuhn and Maria Elizabeth Garcia-Moya earned a 6-1, 6-1, win to also move on to sectionals for the Dons.
