MOSINEE BOYS HOCKEY OPENS SEASON WITH COME-FROM-BEHIND WIN OVER APPLETON UNITED

MOSINEE – Mosinee scored five-straight goals after falling behind in the second period and went on to defeat Appleton United 7-4 in a nonconference boys hockey game to open the season on Tuesday at the Mosinee Recreation Center.
Appleton pulled ahead 3-2 after a pair of power-play goals before Mosinee responded with a flurry.
Caden Schmirler and Jaeger Dhein scored in the second period to give the Indians a 4-3 lead.
Ondrej Napravnik and Schmirler each added their second goals in the third period, and Carter Daul punched in another to complete the rally and put Mosinee on top 7-3. Appleton scored the game’s final goal with 53 seconds remaining.
Elliot Yirkovsky scored Mosinee’s first goal.
Mosinee returns to action Nov. 30 at Stevens Point.
