GREENWOOD BASEBALL WINS ON WILD PITCH WALKOFF

GREENWOOD - The Greenwood Indians baseball team needed an extra inning to get by the Neillsville Warriors 8-7 in Cloverbelt East conference play on Thursday.
In the bottom of the eighth inning Xander Hinker stole second base on the first pitch thrown to batter Fletcher Bredlau. Hinker stole third base on the next pitch and scampered home on a wild pitch with the winning run.
Greenwood raced out to a 5-2 lead through the first two innings. In the top of the fourth, Neillsville took advantage of a pair of Greenwood errors along with four base hits to score four and take the lead 6-5.
The Indians bounced back in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI base hit by Mason Learman to score Bredlau and tie the game at 6-6. The two teams then traded runs in the fifth to set up the extra inning.
Learman and K Johnson each drove in two runs for Greenwood as Hinker and Bredlau combined for five of the eight runs scored. G Barth, S Hayes, and E Moltzen all had RBI hits for Neillsville.
Greenwood (2-2, 2-1) plays Loyal (2-3, 2-0) at home on Friday at 5 p.m. Neillsville (1-3, 0-2) takes on Owen-Withee (0-3, 0-2) at home Friday at 5 p.m.
