EDGAR BOYS BASKETBALL EDGES NEWMAN CATHOLIC ON LATE 3-POINTER

EDGAR – Karter Butt made a 3-pointer with 35 seconds to go to lift Edgar to a 49-46 win over Wausau Newman Catholic in a Marawood Conference South Division boys basketball game Friday night at Edgar High School.


Newman Catholic missed three 3-point attempts in the final 40 seconds as it tried to tie it and were sent to its second-straight defeat.


Edgar is now 7-5 overall and 4-3 in the Marawood South, while Newman Catholic falls to 10-4 and 6-3 in the conference.


Butt scored all 11 of his points in the second half on the strength of three 3-pointers, and Ayden Weisenberger also had 11 points for Edgar. Brett Baumgartner also had three 3-pointers and finished with 10 points in the win.


Mason Prey led Newman Catholic with 20 points.


Edgar plays a pair of Marawood crossover games next week, traveling to Prentice on Monday and Abbotsford on Thursday. Newman Catholic is off until Thursday when it has a crossover game at Chequamegon.
