DE SOTO RALLIES IN SECOND HALF TO EDGE ASSUMPTION FOOTBALL

DE SOTO – The Assumption football team opened its season Friday night with a 34-31 nonconference loss at De Soto.

The Royals led 12-8 at halftime before De Soto rallied with four touchdowns in the second half, opening up a 34-24 lead. Assumption scored with just more than a minute remaining to close the gap but couldn’t convert an onside kick and De Soto was able to run out the clock.

Ryan Shaw and Nick Leberg each rushed for 72 yards and a touchdown, and Reed Duellman added 52 yards on the ground and two scores for the Royals.

De Soto quarterback Evan Pedretti threw for 88 yards and two scores, and rushed for 50 yards and two TDs. Aiden Brosinski had 124 rushing yards and a touchdown, and was the recipient of one of the touchdown passes; Lennart Schmidt caught the other.

Assumption will host Auburndale for its home opener Friday at South Wood County Field at Lincoln High School. The game, which starts at 7 p.m., will be live at zaleskisports.com.
