SCHOFIELD – D.C. Everest scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning and never looked back, taking down Marshfield 5-2 to capture a WIAA Division 1 baseball regional title on Thursday at Simon Field.
Chris Wiesman had a two-run double and Nick Cotter followed with an RBI single to put Everest up 3-0 after two innings.
Everest added another run in the third on an errant pickoff move to first base before Marshfield was able to whittle away a bit.
Adam Zee had a two-out RBI single in the fourth inning, and Carsten Jirschele led off the fifth with a double and scored on a single by Logan Homolka, cutting the Tigers’ deficit in half at 4-2.
Marshfield left two runners on base in the sixth, Everest tacked on an insurance run on an RBI single by Justin Reimer, and Roman Maguire sent the Tigers down in order in the seventh to save the win.
Everest starter Logan Ebersold earned the win, striking out three in four innings. Brock Babiash allowed one run in two innings before handing it over to Maguire to finish it off.
D.C. Everest moves on to the Division 1 sectional, which will be Monday at Jack Hackman Field in Marshfield.
River Falls (10-8) will take on Eau Claire Memorial (19-7) in the first game at 10 a.m., with Everest (16-8) playing Stevens Point (18-5) in the second game at 1 p.m. The winners meet at 4 p.m. for the sectional final and a berth in the WIAA state tournament.
Marshfield finishes its season with a 16-7 record.
