COLUMBUS CATHOLIC SOFTBALL SEES EXHIBITION ACTION IN FLORIDA

COCOA BEACH, FL - The Columbus Catholic Dons softball team saw its first action of the season in exhibition play in Cocoa Beach, FL on Monday. The Dons played a pair on Monday dropping the first game by a a score of 13-3 vs Oak Harbor (OH) and drawing event with Next Level Softball (Wash DC) 7-7.


In the game against Oak Harbor, Columbus Catholic picked up a run in the third and two more in the fifth but couldn't overcome giving up 10 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Akousa Yeboah had two hits and a run batted in to lead the Dons from the plate. Hailey Zimmermann pitched three complete innings, giving up one earned run, and struck out one.


The Dons exploded for five runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 5-2 lead over Next Level Softball in its second game. Next Level scored four in the fourth and a single run in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game at seven. The Dons outhit Next Level nine-to-six in the game but couldn't find the winning run in the bottom of the fifth. Sam Casperson accounted for two runs batted in while batting safely in all three plate appearances. Zimmermann had two hits and a run batted in and struck out six in three innings or work from the circle.


Columbus Catholic is also scheduled to play National Cathedral and Space Coast before returning home for regular season action beginning April 4th at Elcho.
