AUBURNDALE'S JEWELL WINS BOYS RACE, EAGLES FINISH SECOND AT MARATHON CROSS COUNTRY INVITE

RIB MOUNTAIN – Auburndale’s Charles Jewell won the boys race and the Eagles finished second in the team standings at the Marathon Cross Country Invitational on Thursday at Nine Mile Recreation Park.


Jewell won the race in 17:59.9, just 1.7 seconds ahead of Jaron Gage of Marathon. Sam Bowden of Pittsville was third in 18:12.


Marathon won the boys team title with 84 points, five better than Auburndale.


Athens finished fifth, Pittsville sixth and Colby/Abbotsford eighth in the boys standings. Assumption and Port Edwards had incomplete teams.


Nathan Wolf of Athens was fifth in 18:24.5 and Andrew Schaer took 12th in 18:53.3.


Colby/Abbotsford’s top performer was Talon Severson, who finished ninth in 18:44.6.


Assumption’s Blake Lobner took 13th in 19:03.1.


Mason White Eagle was 17th in 19:24 and Ian Grosskopf 18th in 19:25 as Auburndale finished with three top-20 finishes.


The Auburndale girls had just three runners and didn’t figure in the team standings, but had a top-five finish from Jordyn Karl, who was fifth in 21:15.1.


Elizabeth Schmidt of Merrill won the girls race in 19:10.4, 43 seconds in front of Assumption’s Ainara Sainz de Rozas.


Tomahawk won the girls team title with 39 points as its top five runners finished in the top 16. Assumption was second with 59 points.


Colby was third, Marathon fourth, and Pittsville eighth in the girls standings. Athens also had an incomplete squad.


Grace Dolan added a sixth-place finish in 21:23.8 for Assumption.


Colby’s top runners were Willow Oehmichen and Daisy Feiten, who finished 12th and 13th, respectively.

Athens was led by Brianna Sheahan, who took 24th in 23:12.


Auburndale will compete at the Phillips Invitational on Tuesday.
