AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale baseball team held off a late rally to slip past Iola-Scandinavia 4-3 in a nonconference game Monday at Auburndale High School.

The Eagles (9-10) led 4-0 after a three-run third inning and that lead held until the sixth when Iola-Scandinavia (1-15) plated three runs.

The Thunderbirds threatened in the seventh, putting runners on second and third with two out, before Ian Brown finished off his complete game for Auburndale with a strikeout. Brown struck out five and walked four.

Adam Cherney had two of the Eagles’ six hits, and Sloan Welch, Hunter Wright, Conner Brandl and Caden Weinfurter had RBIs in the win.

Auburndale will finish its regular-season and Marawood Conference South Division schedule Tuesday with a doubleheader at Edgar.
