ASSUMPTION SOFTBALL RIDES SCHILL TO WIN OVER ALMOND-BANCROFT IN DIVISION 5 SECTIONAL SEMIFINAL

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Ava Schill struck out nine and scattered four hits in a complete-game effort to lead the Wisconsin Rapids Assumption softball team to a hard-fought 4-1 win over Almond-Bancroft in a WIAA Division 5 softball sectional semifinal Tuesday at Robinson Park.
Assumption (17-2) moves on to a sectional final Thursday against fellow No. 1 seed Blair-Taylor. The game will start at 5 p.m. at Almond-Bancroft High School and will be broadcast live at zaleskisports.com.
Anna Schooley knocked in a pair of runs, and Macy Vollert and Maleia Kolo each had RBI in the victory for the Royals.
Schill walked just one to pick up the victory, allowing just one run in the third inning on an RBI single by Jillian Newby.
Almond-Bancroft, co-champions of the Central Wisconsin Conference South Division, finishes its season with a 21-3 record.
Assumption will be looking for its sixth WIAA state tournament berth and first since 2018 with a win on Thursday. The 2022 WIAA State Softball Tournament will be held at Goodman Diamond in Madison on June 9-11.
