ASSUMPTION BOYS BASKETBALL KNOCKS OFF AMHERST

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Frank Matott scored 21 points and the Assumption boys basketball team used a decisive free throw advantage to down Amherst 74-65 in a nonconference game Monday at Assumption High School.


Matott made three 3-pointers and went 6-for-6 at the free throw line as the Royals made 14 of 15 in all at the line in the victory. Amherst was just 5-for-18 on free throws.


Reed Duellman added 13 points and Bryson Galbreath added 12 for Assumption (8-11).


The 74 points is the most Assumption has scored in a game since scoring 81 in its season opener back on Nov. 26.


Tyler Soulsby scored 16 points, Matthew Glodowski had 14, and Ian Hall chipped in 13 for the Falcons (10-8).


Amherst returns to action Thursday for a Central Wisconsin Conference East Division game at Wittenberg-Birnamwood.


Assumption plays a Marawood Conference crossover game at Abbotsford on Friday.
