STEVENS POINT – The University of Wisconsin-River Falls scored five unanswered touchdowns from late in the first quarter through early in the third and went on to whip UW-Stevens Point 56-20 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football game Saturday afternoon at Goerke Field.
Jahi Stigall tied the game at 7-7 for the Pointers midway through the first quarter before River Falls went on a roll.
Running back Luke Fagate had touchdown runs of 1, 26 and 1 yards, and caught a 2-yard touchdown pass from Kole Hinrichsen to give the Falcons (4-1, 1-1 WIAC) a 35-7 lead at halftime.
Hinrichsen had the second of his three rushing touchdowns 5 minutes into the second half to extend River Falls’ lead to 42-7 before the Pointers (2-3, 0-2 WIAC) scored on a 27-yard TD pass from Max Herro to Jeremy Kobe with 2:40 to go in the third quarter to end the run by the Falcons.
Abbotsford High School graduate Joe Aguilera hauled in a 72-yard touchdown pass from Trey Schroeder midway through the fourth quarter to UW-Stevens Point’s final score. Aguilera finished with five catches for 114 yards.
Hinrichsen sizzled for River Falls, going 24-for-31 for 252 yards and a touchdown, and added 44 yards on the ground and three scores.
Fugate racked up 169 rushing yards and four touchdowns overall as the Falcons outgained Stevens Point 583-325.
Thorp High School graduate Kameron Kryzanski had a game-high 18 tackles, including one for a loss, for the Pointers. D.C. Everest grad Orion Boe added seven tackles in the loss.
Stevens Point travels to Menomonie for a game against UW-Stout on Oct. 16 at 1 p.m.
