APPLETON – Stevens Point scored a pair of goals in the third period to edge Neenah/Hortonville/Menasha 4-3 in a nonconference boys hockey game Friday night at the Community First Champion Center.
Lucca Weinkauf and Kade Smigaj had goals in the first period to give Stevens Point a quick 2-0 lead.
Neenah/Hortonville/Menasha dominated the second period, scoring three unanswered goals in the first 7½ minutes to the lead.
The Panthers turned the tables in the third period as Trevor Herman scored six minutes in and Jackson Schroeder knocked in what proved to be the game-winner 3½ minutes later as Stevens Point (11-3) prevailed.
Jonathon Nafe had 13 saves in goal for Stevens Point.
Stevens Point hosts Lakeland for a nonconference game Saturday at 5 p.m. at K.B. Willett Ice Arena.
