WAUNAKEE - The Stevens Point softball team ran past Waunakee 10-1 on Friday in its season opener. The Panthers have now won season openers in nine consecutive seasons dating back to 2013.
The Panthers were led from the plate by Ashlyn O'Neal, who went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in on a second-inning triple. Brooke Swiecke also helped from the plate as she went 2-for-3 with three runs batted in.
Delilah Abundiz and Maren Sauvageau combined for 12 strikeouts and scattered four hits through seven innings of work in the circle for SPASH.
Next up for SPASH is a game at Oshkosh West on Monday with first pitch scheduled for 5 p/m.
