SPASH EDGES WISCONSIN RAPIDS IN OT TO WIN DIVISION 1 BOYS SOCCER REGIONAL FINAL

STEVENS POINT – Noah Hlavac scored on an assist from Owen Williams in overtime to lift the Stevens Point boys soccer team to a 3-2 win over Wisconsin Rapids in a WIAA Division 1 regional final at the Portage County Youth Soccer Complex.
Carter Gaede scored on a Williams assist in the first half and Stevens Point took that 1-0 lead into halftime.
Williams found the goal himself in the second half, on a pass from Luke Hinchcliffe, to put the Panthers up 2-0 before Wisconsin Rapids stormed back.
Goals by Brandon Kaup and Sean Roenius tied up the match for the Raiders, sending into to the two 10-minute overtime periods, where Hlavac won it for SPASH.
Efrain James-Patino, Luke Hinchcliffe and Cole Sallet combined for seven saves in goal for Stevens Point. Emmit Nieman had eight saves in goal for Wisconsin Rapids, which finishes its season 12-5-3.
The No. 2 seed Stevens Point (14-3-3) will host No. 4 Appleton North (9-7-3) in a WIAA Division 1 sectional semifinal at 7 p.m. Thursday at the PCYSC. North pulled off a 2-1 upset of top seed Kimberly on Saturday.
