SPASH BASEBALL BLANKS WAUSAU EAST TO FINISH OFF WVC TITLE

WAUSAU – Three Stevens Point pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout as the Panthers closed out their Wisconsin Valley Conference baseball championship season with an 8-0 win over Wausau East on Thursday at Athletic Park.


SPASH scored four times in the first inning and added four more in the fifth, as Tommy Drohner, Kale Roth and Noah Marschke each had two hits.


Kaden Thauer allowed three hits in four innings, Josh Opiola gave up one hit in two innings, and Ty Rechner finished off the shutout with a clean seventh for the Panthers, who finish the WVC season at 11-1.


Stevens Point (18-5 overall) play a nonconference game at De Pere on Friday to finish its regular-season schedule.


Wausau East ends its regular season 7-13 and 2-10 in the WVC.
