PLOVER WINS TWICE, MARSHFIELD SPLITS AT SHEBOYGAN LEGION BASEBALL TOURNAMENT

SHEBOYGAN – The Plover and Marshfield Legion baseball teams competed at the Sheboygan Legion Tournament on Saturday.
Plover defeated Marshfield 9-1 before the Blue Devils came back to defeat Wausau 12-7 and improve to 9-6 this season. The Black Sox finished off a perfect 2-0 day with a 9-1 win over Viroqua.
Jon Nafe held Marshfield to just four singles in a complete-game effort for Plover (13-4).
Carl Biechler and Matt Eiden each had two hits, with Biechler scoring three times and Eiden driving in three for the Black Sox.
Cody Donahue had Marshfield’s lone RBI in the bottom of the seventh inning to break up the shutout bid for Nafe.
In Game 2, Marshfield had 13 hits and was able to overcome six errors to beat Wausau.
Marshfield scored seven times in the top of the first inning and never relinquished the lead despite Wausau scored in four different innings.
Nick Urban and Carsten Jirschele each had three hits for the Blue Devils, with Urban scoring three times and Jirschele driving in four runs.
Brock Bennington hit a home run and had two RBI, and Cole Timmler also had two RBI in the victory.
Jake Sankey allowed just one run and four hits through six innings of Plover’s win over Viroqua.
The Black Sox scored five times in the top of the first and added four more in the second to open up a big lead and cruise to the win.
Thomas Hunt and Ben Fonti each had two hits, with Fonti driving in three runs for Plover.
Marshfield and Plover will complete play at the tournament on Sunday.
