PLOVER POUNDS MERRILL TO REMAIN IN FIRST PLACE

SPORTSDESK - The Plover Black Sox took off to Merrill on Tuesday afternoon and then proceeded to take it to Merrill, 12-3. The win puts Plover alone in first place (8-1), a half game clear of Wisconsin Rapids (7-1). They also saw Antigo (6-2) slip at DC Everest (2-6) as the Typhoons slide to third place in the WVC standings.


The Sox fell behind in the first inning as Merrill plated two on a two out two RBI single by Schnider. Plover and Merrill each traded runs in the third before the Sox opened up the throttle in the fourth inning with three runs. Austin Beyer, Mason King and Mike Glodosky all drove in runs in the fourth.


The pitching trio of Brett Ehr, Dylan Trigg and Dylan Davis kept Merrill off the board for the rest of the game as Plover went on to defeat Merrill 12-3.


Ehr and Trigg combined for five strikeouts and only one earned run. King dazzled from the plate with a three for four performance, including two RBI.


Next up for Plover is a home game vs Stevens Point on Wednesday, July 3rd with first pitch scheduled for 7pm.
