NEILLSVILLE – The Pittsville volleyball team opened its season going 3-2 at the Neillsville Invitational on Saturday.

Pittsville lost to Greenwood 25-23, 25-23, and Neillsville 25-21, 25-15, and defeated Mondovi 25-21, 20-25, 18-16, Independence 25-20, 25-20, and Gilmanton 25-12, 25-19.

Madisyn Schooley had 20 kills and five blocks, Angel Millard had 44 assists and Brooke Grossman added 34 assists for Pittsville.

Sara Lacoursiere had 19 kills and 40 digs, Brynn Friday each had 19 kills and five blocks, Reese Grimm and 17 kills and 41 digs, and Kyalee Jacobson had a team-high 55 digs for the Panthers.

“I thought for most of the day we played solid,” Pittsville coach Buff Heller said. “A few communication break downs and some struggles in serve receive cost us a match. We will definitely build off this day and our young players will step up more every time out.”

Pittsville plays at the Nekoosa Quadrangular on Tuesday.
