MOSINEE – Davin Stoffel knocked in Eli Miland with a single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Mosinee baseball team a 9-8 walk-off win over Medford in a wild WIAA Division 2 regional final Wednesday at Mosinee High School.

Mosinee (24-3) moves on to a D-2 sectional at Abbotsford on Tuesday. The Indians will play Altoona in the second of the two semifinals at 1 p.m. Rice Lake and Osceola will play the first game at 10 a.m. The winners will play for a sectional championship and a berth in the state tournament at approximately 4 p.m.

The game was scoreless heading into the bottom of the sixth inning as Mosinee’s Keagen Jirschele and Medford’s Chubs Guden.

Suddenly, Mosinee was able to figure out Guden, smacking back-to-back-to-back home runs to lead off the frame. Stoffel, Tanner Unertl and Gavin Obremski hit consecutive long balls to put Mosinee up 3-0 and chase Guden from the game.

Trenton Dorn knocked in a run to make it 4-0.

Jirschele was lifted in the top of the seventh after surpassing the 100-pitch mark and Medford rallied against Stoffel and Trevor Garski to pull ahead with a six-run frame. Two bases-loaded walks and a three-run triple by Tanner Hraby put the Raiders ahead 5-4. Hraby scored on a sacrifice fly to give Medford a two-run lead.

But that wasn’t safe either. Mosinee rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh as Garski had an RBI double and scored on a single by Drake Grod to tie the game at 6-6, forcing extra innings.

After a scoreless eighth, Medford scored twice in the top of the ninth on a two-run, two-out double by Logan Baumgartner.

Mosinee had one last rally left to save its season. Garski and Grod led off the inning with singles and moved up a base on a bunt by Trenton Dorn. Garski scored on a wild pitch before Miland walked. Another wild pitch played Grod to tie the game and two batters later Stoffel delivered the game-winning hit to centerfield for Mosinee.
