LOYAL – The Loyal girls basketball team overcame a rough shooting game to edge Owen-Withee 28-24 in a defensive-minded Cloverbelt Conference East Division battle Tuesday at Loyal High School.


The Greyhounds shot just 17 percent from the field (9-for-53) and were only 10 of 21 at the free throw line, but were able to earn the win as Owen-Withee was just 11-for-36 from the floor and only made one free throw.


Abrial Kubista had 11 points and 11 rebounds for Loyal, which is now 6-7 overall and 4-3 in the Cloverbelt East.


Kendall Weiler had seven points to lead Owen-Withee (2-10, 2-6 Cloverbelt East).


Loyal hosts Gilman on Friday.
