HAGEN KNOCKS IN WINNING RUN IN TOP OF SEVENTH AS GREENWOOD/LOYAL SOFTBALL WINS REGIONAL SEMIFINAL

GALESVILLE – Aspen Hagen knocked in Emma Schlough with the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning as the Greenwood/Loyal softball team edged Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau 4-3 in a WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal on Monday.
The fifth-seeded Greenhounds move on to a D-3 regional final at No. 1 seed Prescott (20-3) on Wednesday. Prescott rolled past Osseo-Fairchild 9-1 on Monday. G-E-T finishes its season 13-7.
Kaitlyn Lindner singled home Mesa Rasmussen to put Greenwood/Loyal up 1-0 in the third.
The Greenhounds added two more runs in the fifth on RBI singles by Rasmussen and Lindner to take a 3-0 lead before G-E-T clawed back.
Two runs scored on an error in the fifth and Melissa Flynn knocked home a run with a single in the sixth to tie it up, but Greenwood/Loyal quickly regained the advantage in the top of the seventh.
Kaitlyn Lindner, the Greenwood/Loyal pitcher, finished off the win with a three-up, three-down bottom of the seventh. She finished with three strikeouts and no walks, while allowing six hits and just the one earned run in a complete-game effort.
