EDGAR BASEBALL EDGES MARATHON IN EIGHT INNINGS TO WIN MARAWOOD SOUTH OPENER

MARATHON – Edgar scored a pair of runs in the top of the eighth inning to down Marathon 6-4 in a battle of undefeated teams in the Marawood Conference South Division baseball opener for both schools on Tuesday at Marathon High School.


Edgar scored a run in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game at 4-4, forcing extra innings, and in the top of the eighth plated a pair of runs.


Jordan Bunkelman entered in relief of starter Konnor Wolf and earned the save with a scoreless bottom of the eighth, pushing Edgar to a 4-0 record to start the season.


Wolf went seven strong innings, giving up four runs and six hits, while striking out four. He also added a double at the plate.


Bunkelman had four hits, three RBIs and scored two runs, and Kyle Brewster, Drew Guden and Austin Dahlke each added to hits in the win for the Wildcats.


Brock Warren struck out five and walked four in six innings, allowing three runs, and also had three of Marathon’s six hits. The Raiders fall to 4-1 overall.


The two teams will meet again Thursday at Edgar High School.
