WISCONSIN RAPIDS SENDING 12 TO SECTIONALS AFTER COMPETITION AT D-1 WRESTLING REGIONAL

BARABOO – Wisconsin Rapids will send 12 wrestlers to the sectional meet after competing at the WIAA Division 1 regional on Saturday at Baraboo High School.


Holmen won the team title with 263 points to earn a spot in the Division 1 team sectional at Waunakee on Tuesday. Wisconsin Rapids finished second in the team standings with 239.5 points.


The top four finishers in each weight class qualify for the D-1 individual sectional at Sun Prairie on Feb. 19.


Wisconsin Rapids won four individual regional titles as Preston Spray (44-2 at 113), Carter Freeman (31-10 at 120), Brett Back (44-2 at 145) and Bennett Weidman (26-6 at 160) rolled through their brackets.


Landyn Freeman (33-9 at 106) and Asthon Fischer (24-4 at 182) placed second; Lucas Bean (27-11 at 132), Josh Black (30-12 at 138), Damion Stirk (26-20 at 195), Tanner Gormanson (14-18 at 220) and Josh Hansen (28-15 at 285) each finished third; and Aceyn Meyer (33-8 at 126) took fourth for the Raiders to also move on in the postseason.


The top two finishers in each weight class at the sectional will qualify for the WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament at the Kohl Center in Madison on Feb. 24-26.
