WISCONSIN RAPIDS SECOND AT MERRILL BOYS GOLF INVITE

MERRILL – Wisconsin Rapids finished second behind a sizzling Rhinelander squad at the Merrill Boys Golf Invitational on Saturday at Merrill Golf Course.
Rhinelander won the team title with a 322, 12 shots in front of Wisconsin Rapids. Stevens Point was sixth with a 350, Marshfield’s No. 1 team was eighth with a 358 and its No. 2 team was 12th with a 366.
Conner Krach of Wausau Newman Catholic was meet medalist with a 73, three shots in front of Joey Volpentesta of Antigo.
Brady Skifton had a 79 to place fifth, Dominick Fetterer had an 82, Carter Morrison shot an 86, and Sawyer Wilkens had an 87 for Wisconsin Rapids.
Wisconsin Rapids had a second team with only three golfers, so it doesn’t figure in team standings. Chase Jensen had a 91, Jack Blockhuis shot a 96, and Mitch Blockhuis fired a 98.
Ethan Thomas led Stevens Point with an 81. Nate Earnest had an 87, A.J. Earnest shot an 89, and Jacob Kozelek had a 93 for the Panthers.
Kyle Berres had an 82, Tyler Heiman and Maxx Oertel each had 86s, and Graydon Anderson had a 104 for Marshfield No. 1.
Keegan Frederick had an 86, Afton Hamill shot a 90, and Ethan Schnitzler and Eli Krueger both had 95s for Marshfield No. 2.
In addition to Krach’s leading 73, Jack Hoelter had a 90, Nevaeh Nelson had a 97 and Sam Nelson shot a 99 for Newman Catholic.
