WISCONSIN RAPIDS BOYS HOCKEY RALLIES TO BEAT D.C. EVEREST IN WVC FINALE

SCHOFIELD – Wisconsin Rapids scored three unanswered goals in the final 23 minutes to overcome an early deficit and defeat D.C. Everest 4-2 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference boys hockey finale for both teams on Thursday at the Greenheck Fieldhouse Ice Arena.


Thomas Passineau and Marcus Wojnowiak scored in a span of 31 seconds to give D.C. Everest a 2-1 lead midway through the second period.


Carson Gunderson responded with a goal 1½ minutes later to tie the game, and Trevor Vilbaum and Carter Morrison had goals in the third period to provide the winning margin for the Raiders.


Jax Pagel scored Wisconsin Rapids’ first goal in the second period.


Wisconsin Rapids improves to 16-5 overall and finishes the WVC season with a 7-3 record and a third-place finish.


D.C. Everest drops to 8-13 and ends up 2-8 in the conference.


D.C. Everest plays a nonconference game at Onalaska/La Crosse on Saturday. Wisconsin Rapids is off until Tuesday when it hosts Black River Falls for a nonconference game.
