WISCONSIN RAPIDS BOYS HOCKEY PULLS OUT TIGHT WIN OVER BLACK RIVER FALLS

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Carsen Gause and Carson Gunderson scored goals in the third period to push the Wisconsin Rapids boys hockey team to a 5-4 win over Black River Falls in a nonconference game Tuesday at the South Wood County Recreation Center.


Gause scored in the first period and Gunderson in the second as the game went into the third period tied at 2-2.


Josh Dekarske scored just 28 seconds into the third to give the Raiders a brief lead before Black River Falls’ Drew Apicella scored his second goal of the game to tie it again just 2 minutes later.


Gause scored a short-handed goal with 7:10 remaining and Gunderson added a power play goal 3½ minutes later to put the Raiders ahead to stay.


Wisconsin Rapids (17-5) hosts Monona Grove at 4:30 p.m. Friday and will play either Bay Port and West Salem on Saturday at its home tournament to end the regular season at the South Wood County Recreation Center.


Wisconsin Rapids opens WIAA postseason play with a regional semifinal at home against D.C. Everest on Feb. 15.
