WILD ROSE GIRLS BASKETBALL EARNS D-5 REGIONAL SEMIFINAL WIN OVER ALMOND-BANCROFT

WILD ROSE – Wild Rose, the No. 2 seed in its girls basketball sectional, overcame a rare halftime deficit and defeated Central Wisconsin Conference South Division rival Almond-Bancroft 62-44 in a WIAA Division 5 regional semifinal on Friday night at Wild Rose High School.


The Wildcats (22-1) won their 20th-straight game and will host a D-5 regional final against No. 3 seed Edgar (19-7) on Saturday at 7 p.m. Edgar defeated Gresham 66-60 on Friday.


The 10th-seed Almond-Bancroft made 8 of 11 free throws in the first half to take an 18-17 lead into intermission.


Wild Rose, behind high-scorer guard Laney Havlovitz, took control in the second half. The junior, who already has surpassed 1,000 points for her career, scored all 19 of her points after halftime as Wild Rose outscored the Eagles 45-26 to pull away.


Mya Bahr added 16 points for the Wildcats.


Lexie Dernbach led Almond-Bancroft (16-10) with 13 points.
