OWEN – Sam Wilczek hit a 3-pointer with 3.7 seconds left to give the Marshfield Columbus Catholic boys basketball team a thrilling 64-62 win over Owen-Withee on Friday night at Owen-Withee High School.


Owen-Withee led 59-53 with two minutes left, setting up a wild finish.


Columbus made four free throws and Wilczek converted a three-point play to cut the Blackhawks’ lead to 61-60 with 1:16 to go.


Grant Olson tied the game for the Dons with a free throw with 45 seconds left, before Tyler Weaver put Owen-Withee back on top by a point with a free throw with 28 seconds to go.


After a Columbus Catholic turnover, Owen-Withee was fouled and missed the front end of a one-and-one. Emmitt Konieczny rebounded, dribbled just past halfcourt, and found Wilczek open on the left win and the senior guard drained a 3-pointer to give the Dons a 64-62 lead with 3.7 seconds left.


Owen-Withee called timeout and missed a half-court shot at the buzzer to allow the Dons to escape and remain undefeated at 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the Cloverbelt East.


Wilczek finished with a team-high 16 points, Charlie Moore hit four 3-pointers and added 12 off the bench, and Konieczny had nine points and 10 rebounds for Columbus Catholic.
