UW-STEVENS POINT FOOTBALL DOMINATES SIMPSON TO WIN SECOND STRAIGHT

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Punter Carter Unger threw a long touchdown pass early in the first quarter to linebacker Kameron Kryzanski to start the onslaught as the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point football team rolled past Simpson College 34-7 in a nonconference game Saturday.


Kryzanski, a senior from Thorp, took the fake punt pass 65 yards for a score 2:10 into the game to set the tone for the Pointers, who improve to 2-0 this season.


Jermaine Moore added a 6-yard touchdown run, and Max Herro threw a pair of touchdown passes to help UWSP build a 27-0 lead less than 20 minutes into the game.


Seth Forbes added a 1-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter to finish the scoring for the Pointers.


Stevens Point dominated on the ground, racking up 311 yards on 57 carries. Vercion Gammel led the way with 132 yards on 19 totes. Forbes added 57 and the touchdown.


Herro completed just 6 of 18 for 84 yards, but had the two scoring strikes – 28 yards to Devin Baldridge and 27 yards to Joe Hare – in the second quarter. Trey Schroeder came in and completed 7 of 9 passes for another 67 yards for Stevens Point.


Abbotsford High School grad Joe Aguilera was the top receiver for the Pointers, catching six passes for 52 yards.


Stevens Point’s defense was just as dominant, holding Simpson (0-2) to 187 total yards and just 19 on the ground as the Pointers’ had five sacks and two interceptions.


UW-Stevens Point will play its home opener at 2 p.m. next Saturday, Sept. 18, against UW-Stout in a nonconference game at Goerke Field.
