UW-EAU CLAIRE RALLIES IN FOURTH QUARTER TO TOP UW-STEVENS POINT IN WIAC FOOTBALL

STEVENS POINT – University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire scored the final 11 points of the game to pull past UW-Stevens Point 25-15 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football game Saturday at Goerke Field.
Eau Claire led 14-0 after two Harry Roubidoux touchdown passes before Stevens Point rallied.
Victor Ponterio hit a 45-yard field goal with 1:45 to go in the first half to get the Pointers on the board.
Trey Schroeder hit Jahi Stigall for an 11-yard touchdown pass late in the third quarter, and Stigall had an 18-yard TD run 40 seconds into the fourth quarter to complete the comeback, and give the Pointers a short-lived 15-14 lead.
Eau Claire punted on its next possession, but Stevens Point fumbled on its first play and Noah Nephew recovered for the Blugolds at the UWSP 27. Two plays later, Austin Belot cruised in from the 23 and Joe Swanson added a two-point conversion to give Eau Claire a 22-15 lead.
Eau Claire tacked on a field goal to provide the final margin.
Stevens Point outgained Eau Claire 313-210, but couldn’t overcome four turnovers, including three lost fumbles.
UW-Stevens Point (1-2, 0-1 WIAC) hosts UW-River Falls at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, for its annual Homecoming game.
