WAUSAU – Newman Catholic’s Dylan Ackermann and Brennan Shaughnessy combined to throw a no-hitter and the Cardinals scored seven runs over the third and fourth innings to pull past Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 7-0 in a Marawood Conference South Division baseball game Tuesday at Brockmeyer Park.

Ackermann struck out seven in 3 1/3 innings and Shaughnessy had three strikeouts in two innings for the Cardinals. The game was stopped with one out in the top of the sixth inning due to rain and called complete.

Shaughnessy had two hits and two RBIs, and Taylor Lemanski, Ackermann, and Eli Gustafson all had two hits as well for Newman Catholic, which improves to 4-7 overall and 2-5 in the Marawood South.

Assumption drops to 3-10 and 0-7 in the Marawood South.

The two teams will play again Thursday at Witter Park in Wisconsin Rapids.
