DELAWARE COUNTY PREP ROUNDUP, SEPTEMBER 4
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Muncie Central’s Isaiah Strong achieved his first individual victory Sept. 3 by winning the Wapahani Invitational. The Bearcats finished third in the team race. Robert Thomma also medaled for Central with a 10th-place finish.
The Bearcats also competed at the Noblesville Hokum Karem on Aug. 31. The pair of Strong and Dylan Bradford finished 12th, and AJ Martinez-Thomma placed 13th.
Yorktown’s Matt Mitsch won the individual championship at the Taylor University Invitational on Aug. 31. The Tiger boys placed fifth.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Muncie Central won the Wapahani Invitational on Sept. 3. Yorktown finished fifth Aug. 31 in the Taylor University Invitational. Amberleigh Sorenson led the way by placing sixth.
Three highly ranked Delaware County teams found success in invitationals on Aug. 31. Class 4A
No. 1 Yorktown won its own event with four match victories. The Tigers are 10-0.
Class 3A No. 2 Wapahani won its tournament, downing Shenandoah in the championship round.
Class A No. 3 Cowan stopped three opponents to win its tourney. Jascey Harrington had 25 kills and 26 assists.
Class 3A No. 1 Burris suffered its first loss of the season, falling to 4A No. 3 McCutcheon in a three-set match on Aug. 31.
In a matchup of highly ranked intra-county volleyball teams, Yorktown beat Wapahani 25-6, 25-12, 25-20 on Sept. 3.
Wes-Del shot 395 to win the Mid-Eastern Conference championship on Aug. 31. Daleville was second and Wapahani fifth. The Warriors’ Lauren Kimble was medalist with 88. Lauryn Johnson was fourth and Brylee Koontz fifth.
