STRATFORD WINS SEVEN TITLES, CLAIMS NINTH-STRAIGHT MARAWOOD CONFERENCE WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIP

EDGAR – Stratford won seven individual titles on its way to its ninth-straight Marawood Conference championship at the Marawood Conference Wrestling Tournament on Saturday at Edgar High School.
The Tigers finished with 242 points, well ahead of second-place Auburndale (137) and third-place Phillips (136) as they claimed the conference title again.
Trenton Cournoyer (106 pounds), Gavin Drexler (138), Dillon Kirsch (145), Elijah Lucio (152), Carter Lueck (170), Raife Smart (195) and Cole Marten (220) earned individual titles for Stratford. Gavin Kirsch (160) and Jackson Ormond (182) both finished second as well for the Tigers.
Auburndale earned three individual championships as Colton Weiler took first at 113, Noah Altmann won the title at 132, and Sloan Welch won the 182-pound championship match with an ultimate-tiebreaker 4-3 win over Ormond as he improves to 35-4 this season.
Athens’ Connor Lewandowski won the 126-pound championship, and Edgar’s Waylon Wirkus (24-4) took first at 285 pounds.
