WAUSAU – The Stevens Point girls golf team, behind a course-record performance from Riley Pechinski, clinched the Wisconsin Valley Conference championship by winning the sixth leg of the tournament series at Trapp River Golf Course on Friday.
Stevens Point wrapped up the conference title by taking first for the fourth time in six meets with a score of 178. Wisconsin Rapids was second with a 184 and Marshfield third with a 189.
Pechinski shot a front nine course record of 32 to win meet medalist honors and clinch the individual conference title.
Faith Cour of Wisconsin Rapids and Marshfield’s Brielle Lenz tied for second with 41s, and Wausau East/West’s Tess Bruner and Wisconsin Rapids’ Dylan Gruszynski tied for fourth.
Ellie Mechler had a 48, McKenzie Holm shot a 49, Raina Manlick had a 51 and Lily Anaya had a 54 to round out the scoring for Marshfield, which finished third, recording its highest finish in the tournament thus far.
The final leg of the seven-meet tournament will be Thursday at Crane Meadows Golf Course in Wausau.
No other individual scores were reported.
