WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Stevens Point boys and Wisconsin Rapids girls won team titles at the Wisconsin Rapids Jim Newman Cross Country Invitational on Saturday at Ridges Golf Course.


The Stevens Point boys had four top-seven finishes to run away with the team title with 33 points. West Salem was a distant second with 110.


Wisconsin Rapids was eight (231), Athens ninth (244) and Rosholt 10th (306). Wisconsin Rapids Assumption had an incomplete team.


Mateo Alvarado Venegas of Sun Prairie won the boys race in 15:50.1, four seconds ahead of Jack Boerger of Sauk Prairie.


Stevens Point was led by a third-place finish from Eric Boettcher (16:26.4). Aloysius Franzen was fifth (16:30.4), Zach Scharbarth sixth (16:36.3), and James Jacobs seventh (16:50.4) for the Panthers.


Henry Hoerneman was 11th (17:05.4) to lead the way for the Marshfield boys, which finished with 118 points. Graham Lonsdale was 23rd (17:54.6), Thomas Cashmer 24th (17:59.4), Owen Hoerneman 26th (18:03.5) and James Ketterer 36th (18:21.4) as well for Marshfield.


Collin Wellnitz was 14th (17:23.9) to lead Wisconsin Rapids.


Athens’ top runners were Nathan Wolf (25th, 18:03.1) and Andrew Schaer (29th, 18:10.8).


Rosholt’s Jacob Ross finished 32nd in 18:16.5, and Assumption’s Blake Lobner was 47th (18:47.1) to lead their respective teams.


Wisconsin Rapids won the girls team title with 86 points, nine better than Sun Prairie. Marshfield was fifth with 136, Assumption sixth with 150 and Rosholt 15th with 428. Athens had an incomplete team with just three runners.


Raquel Reuter of Darlington won the girls race in 19:47.1, with Wisconsin Rapids Assumption’s Ainara Sainz de Rozas second in 20:11.6. Grace Dolan also finished 26th for the Royals in 21:59.5.


Kate Schaeffer finished fifth (20:36.6), Elise Moon 11th (20:58.0) and Allison Jahns 12th (20:58.1) to lead the way for the Wisconsin Rapids girls.


Marshfield got a top-10 finish from senior Eliana Kanitz, who took ninth in 20:48.6. Kairi Kim finished 17th (21:26.3), Calleigh Kanitz 33rd (22:23.5), Michaela Dick 34th (22:23.8), and Meghan Jaeger 43rd (22:36.3) for the Tigers.


Athens’ top runner was Brianna Sheahan, who was 46th in 22:48.1, and Rosholt’s best runner was Hailey Kostuch, who took 62nd in 23:29.6.
