SPASH BOYS HOCKEY JUMPS ON WISCONSIN RAPIDS EARLY, ROLLS TO WVC WIN

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Kade Smigaj had two goals and an assist to lead the Stevens Point boys hockey team to a 6-1 win over Wisconsin Rapids in a Wisconsin Valley Conference matchup Thursday at the South Wood County Ice Arena.


Mason Keller scored two minutes into the game to spark SPASH to a 3-0 lead in the opening period as Jackson Schroeder and Trevor Herman added goals for the Panthers.


Carsen Gause scored Wisconsin Rapids’ lone goal of the game in the second period to cut Stevens Point’s lead to 4-1, but Smigaj and Simon Bienvenue each scored late to provide the final margin.


Stevens Point (9-3, 4-1 Wisconsin Valley Conference) plays a nonconference game at Neenah on Friday. Wisconsin Rapids (12-5, 4-3 WVC) is back in action Saturday at Barron.
