DEFOREST - The SPASH Panthers baseball team began its season with a two-game sweep at DeForest on Saturday. The Panthers overpowered the Norskies 7-3 and 11-1 on a chilly day at DeForest High School.
In the first game, the Panthers jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second inning and that was all Josh Opiola needed to secure the win on the mound. Opiola struck two, scattered six hits, and didn't give up a run in four innings of work. Kaden Thauer finished the game's final three innings, striking out four and allowing three runs.
Game 2 featured Benett Klish from the plate in the lead-off spot for SPASH. Klish had three hits in four plate appearances with one run batted in and scored twice. The Panthers scored four in the first and a seven-run outburst put the game away in the fourth. Ben Raczek, Riley Warzynski, Bryce Ehr, and Ben Fonti all chipped in two RBIs.
Next up for SPASH is a game at D.C. Everest on Tuesday, April 12 with first pitch at 4:30 p.m.
