SCHILL TOSSES GEM AS ASSUMPTION SOFTBALL SHUTS OUT AUBURNDALE

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Assumption pitcher Ava Schill struck out 14 without walking a batter in a 5-0 shutout win over Auburndale in a Marawood Conference South Division softball game Tuesday at Robinson Park.
Assumption improves to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Marawood South, while Auburndale drops to 0-3 and 0-2 in conference play.
Schill held Auburndale to five hits, four of them singles, in earning the shutout.
The game was scoreless until the fourth when Madi Abbot knocked in Claire Nelson with a double in the fourth inning to give Assumption a 1-0 lead.
The Royals gave Schill some breathing room with a four-run fifth. Nelson had an RBI single, Macy Vollert drove in two with a double, and Smits knocked in Vollert with a single, all with two outs, to push their lead to 5-0.
Ashlyn Grimm took the loss for Auburndale, striking out four and walking four in a complete-game effort. She also went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Auburndale hosts Chequamegon for a nonconference game Friday, and Assumption will play a nonconference game at Mosinee on Monday.
