RAPIDS EARNS ROAD WIN AT EVEREST FOR FOURTH CONSECUTIVE VALLEY WIN
SCHOFIELD - The Wisconsin Rapids Red Raiders girls basketball team won its fourth straight Wisconsin Valley Conference game on Tuesday night with a road win at D.C. Everest. With the 50-46 win, Wisconsin Rapids (7-1) keeps pace With Wausau West (7-0) for a conference championship. The two teams next meet on February 4th in Wausau.
The Red Raiders got 19 points from scoring leader, Megan Clary. Alli Martin chipped in 10 points and Venessa Vechinski had nine. Ella Bruns grabbed 10 rebounds to go along with nine assists and five steals.
The Evergreens were led in scoring by McKenna Hammond with 11 points. The loss moves the Everest conference record to 5-5.
The win for Wisconsin Rapids also keeps them in position to claim the top seed in their postseason regional group. A game at home against Wausau East (0-5) on Friday is the final contest before the annual seed selection meeting on Saturday. A top seed in the regional tournament guarantees all games to be played at home.
