PORT EDWARDS GIRLS BASKETBALL HOLDS OFF TIGERTON FOR FIRST WIN

TIGERTON – Port Edwards jumped out to a big lead early and had to hold on late to defeat Tigerton 54-50 in a nonconference girls basketball game Saturday at Tigerton High School.
The win is the first of the season for the Blackhawks, who are now 1-7.
Port Edwards raced out to an 18-4 lead and held a 30-24 advantage at halftime.
Tigerton cut the Blackhawks’ lead to one at 34-33 with 13:15 remaining, but Port Edwards was able to regroup, going on an 11-4 run to retake control and it held on the rest of the way.
Melanie Sillars had a career-high of 19 points, connecting on five 3-pointers, and Taylor Martin also had a career-night with her first triple-double with 18 points, 12 assists, and 10 rebounds in the win for Port Edwards.
Port Edwards hosts Augusta for another nonconference game on Tuesday.
